About Annie
Hi! I'm Annie Sicherman, an art educator and firm believer that the kid who fills their notebooks with characters and worlds nobody else understands yet is exactly the kind of artist worth nurturing.
I've spent 15 years teaching visual art in NYC schools, and I currently teach 4th–8th grade at the Bank Street School for Children. I also have a thriving tutoring practice virtual tutoring where I have the pleasure of working with kids who have a head bursting with unique ideas and just needs someone to help them get it out of their brain and onto the page.
I specialize in both realistic drawing and comic-making — character design, panel layouts, visual storytelling, world-building, the whole thing. Whether your kid is deep into their own original universe, obsessed with graphic novels, or just starting to figure out their style, I'll meet them exactly where they are.
I work with students literally anywhere in the world. If this sounds like a good fit for your kid, get in touch!
“Annie's class is great because she gives the kids a clear structure for the trajectory of the course, and there is a goal for each class, but it never feels rigid. Annie's style is supportive, patient and genuinely open to all ideas, so that the kids are at ease, and love sharing their ideas and drawings. My daughter loved it and looked forward to it every week.” - Lee (Mom)
“My son took Annie's comic book class and he really enjoyed it. It taught him new things about how to start a comic book and get his ideas going on paper. Annie was really helpful in guiding my son to tell his story through pictures, and relying less on words. Annie was very patient and helpful; and I would definitely sign my son up for another class.” -Esther (Mom)
“Annie’s teaching experience and deep knowledge were key in helping my child create and submit a polished and standout portfolio. Her expert guidance also gave my child the confidence to fully embrace and express her unique artistic voice. - Un (mom to 8th grader)
